Yoga

Week #9 of Quarantine I led a yoga class with our girls. It so much fun! No preparation needed. I suggested to the girls that they find a place in their home that has space and preferably carpet. If not carpeted, they could use a yoga mat or towel so there is some comfort. After the activity, I shared an image that has a few basic yoga poses along with the calming music that we listened to. We covered some of the basic poses depicted in addition to a couple harder ones. The activity itself took 40 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeZHNmtBvDI

Household Minute to Win-It

Week #8 of Quarantine  We played four different minute to win-it games. I tried to find challenges that use household items that everyone should already have. We asked everyone to collect these items prior to activity. I will include that below. If there are siblings participating, they will need their own items.  Items:  -A Cookie (Any kind) -Chop Sticks -Cotton Balls -Cereal (Any kind) or Marshmallows -Four bowls (or two) -Three cups -Three spoons Game #1 - Face the Cookie You can tilt your head and move your face , but you cannot touch the cookie  with your hands. The cookie  must remain in contact with your face  at all times, so you're not allowed to attempt to flip it from your forehead and catch it in your mouth. Game #2 - Nose Dive Transfer cotton balls from one bowl to another by using only your nose. Game #3 - Chopsticks Challenge  Use chopsticks to transfer cereal (or marshmallows) from one bowl to another.  Game #4 - Spoon Frog Arrange...

So You Think You've Got Talent?

Week #7 of Quarantine  We had a talent/untalented show. What that means is the youth, and leaders if they choose, came prepared to show a talent. Afterwards, everyone attempted to do the same act. It was pretty funny. There were a few acts that we couldn't replicate (i.e. sewing a dress), but most of them we were able to copy. We had girls share some art work, British accents, and juggling.

The Great Bake Off

Week #6 of Quarantine Our specific group of girls had a few requests and allergy restrictions (Gluten, dairy, and coconut). We managed to find a baking recipe that meets our needs and is fairly simple/contains common ingredients....Gluten-free lemon bars! We asked the girls to buy ingredients prior to the activity (if needed) and we prepared it together over zoom. Since we were not able to finish the recipe together because of the 2 hour chill time, I had the girls send me pictures of their creations. The next day I shared a handout of the recipe we used along with the pictures I received on it. They loved it! It was a very successful and well attended activity. (Note: If you do not want to buy gluten-free flour, you can use regular flour. It will no longer be a gluten-free recipe though.) This is the recipe we used. https://www.mamaknowsglutenfree.com/gluten-free-lemon-bars/
