Book Club Online

Week #3 of Quarantine

This was a repeat of the previous Book Club activity we did once before. It was even more popular this time around though! We had a couple girls even share some short stories that they are writing! At the end of the activity I posted a little commentary message on our Facebook page that had all of our reviews of the book/series and the movie or TV show if there is one. I will share below what I posted:

I am going to list the books that were shared, apps to use for reading, and any movies that might go along with the shared books.

*Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight series, Book 1) ((I personally did not like the movies, but the group seemed to vote 50/50.))

*Persuasion by Jane Austen ((There are multiple movie/tv adaptations but Sister Brandt knows which one is the best.))

*Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ((Multiple movie/tv adaptations but no opinions were given.))

*The Lord of the Ring Series by J.R.R. Tolkein ((Movies: Unanimous A+))

*Gadiantons and the Silver Sword by Chris Heimerdinger (Tennis Shoes Adventure Series, Book 2)

*Harley Quinn at Super Hero High by Lisa Yee (DC Super hero Girls Series, Book 5) ((There is a show on Netflix, but is nothing like the books. There is another show that is more true but is impossible to find.))

*Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series by Rick Riordan ((Movies: Unanimous F))

*The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

*Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter Series, Book 5)((((Movies: Unspoken but Unanimous A+))

Suggested Apps: Overdrive and Libby

Pictionary Online

Week #10 of Quarantine  The girls wanted to play generic pictionary. I would privately chat the word to the drawer, they would give me a thumbs up or down if they knew what it was, and then they would begin. We set a timer for 3 minutes for each word, but everyone seemed to guess correctly fairly quick. When we completed a round, which was when everyone had taken a turn, we would set the words to a harder level. Depending on the video chat program you use, there will be a whiteboard that you can share screen with the girls and they can draw on it. If you do not have that or can not make it work, we used regular paper and markers and it worked well for us.  This is the word generator we used: https://randomwordgenerator.com/pictionary.php
